‘The Beautiful City’ charity screening to launch

Charity film screening for ‘The Beautiful City’ is to be launched with Asghar Farhadi in attendance.

Charity film screening for ‘The Beautiful City’ is set to be launched with Iran multi-award winning auteur Asghar Farhadi in attendance.

Directed and penned by Asghar Farhadi, ‘The Beautiful City’ charity screening will be held on December 29, 2018 attending by Iranian cineastes.

All the proceeds from ticket sales will fund part of the ransom of two adolescents convicted on retaliation charges.

The tragicomic flick is a 2004 Iranian melodrama with magnificent thesping as Taraneh Alidousti, Faramarz Qaribian, Babak Ansari, Ahou Kheradmand, Farhad Qaemian and Hossein Farzizadeh.  

This cinematic gem is Farhadi’s second feature film which explores the concept of justice through the story of an 18-year-old prisoner named Akbar.

Akbar is awaiting execution for the murder of his friend while his sister works to save his life by trying to persuade the plaintiff to give his consent for clemency.

   

‘The Beautiful City’ has bagged several awards at various film festivals worldwide, including Golden Peacock and Special Jury Award at Int’l Film Festival of India (IFFI), Grand Prix Award at Warsaw Int’l Film Festival in Poland, FIPRESCI Prize at 2005 Split Film Festival in Croatia and Crystal Simorgh Award for Best Sound Mixing at 2004 Fajr Film Festival in Iran.  

  

Acclaimed Farhadi won his first Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film with 'A Separation' in 2012.

In 2017, 'The Salesman' brought him the second Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

Farhadi’s latest film 'Everybody Knows' starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz premiered at 2018 edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
